As part of the new vision for the Finance Division at UNSW, a series of goals have been announced.
These goals are:
1. To simplify finance systems and business processes.
2. To adopt a GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) compliant "single source of truth" in all financial reporting.
3. To build and develop a strong team of high quality professional staff in finance roles across the University.
4. To develop a responsive, helpful, customer-friendly culture.
5. To improve the quality of financial management and planning, positioning Finance as the trusted adviser of decision-makers at all University levels.
Finance Specific Behaviours
Accountability: Take ownership and do what they say, and work hard to tackle demanding goals and deliver results. Raise issues or road blocks with the intention of resolution and progressing a solution to issues. Encourage others to take ownership of their work, insist on operational excellence, take the initiative and make clear decisions which may involve tough choices.
Transparency: Open in their dealings with others and have a positive and clear intent. They communicate clearly and explain their decisions.
Professional: Demonstrate and deliver to high ethical standards, influencing through their credibility. They set high standards for themselves and have a focus upon continual personal and technical development.
Customer Focus: Understand and consistently deliver on the needs of internal and external customers, are positive and responsive, and seeing things from the perspective of end users. Are well connected to know the issues and what is important to customers.
Enabling: Work collaboratively with customers to help build knowledge and skills to facilitate achievement of their goals while working to relevant financial guidelines.
Trusted Advisor: Build confidence in others and influence through knowledge and an ability to address, frame and simplify complex problems while developing solutions.
Teamwork: Adapt to the team and build team spirit, demonstrating respect, supporting and assisting others to achieve goals. Help and encourage team members to use their strengths to best advantage for the team.
Collaborative Communication: Encourage, listen and act on others’ viewpoints, building open, trusting and respectful relationships. Remain constructive throughout interactions, actively communicating and sharing information.
Solution Focused: Develop pragmatic solutions which are well grounded and realistic. Assess issues, taking on board new information and integrating previous experience to better understand the dimensions of a problem. Bring multiple perspectives to help others see problems differently.
Strategic leadership: Influence, motivate and inspire others to achieve both personal and organisational goals, Adapting their leadership style to the development level of others. They are seen as role model leaders who actively seek and respond to feedback from others to better understand their leadership style and the impact it has on others.
Strategic Thinking & Innovation: Think beyond their own area which requires complex thinking abilities, both analytical and conceptual, The ability to respond in an innovative way, to a rapidly changing global and local environment.
Relationship Management: Understand the importance of developing and maintaining relationships with key clients, and the need to look for opportunities to build alliances to enhance business. They welcome interactions and the chance to build relationships with customers Are able to set clear direction for individuals and teams.
Change Management: Drive and be responsive to change in order to transform the organisation to meet a changing organisational environment.
Business focus: Apply business skills that are underpinned by strong financial and commercial principles, to ensure business results are achieved at both the local and university levels.
Compliance: Understand the importance of accurately interpreting and complying with governance and legislative regulations, and the need to be proactive in forecasting and responding to new or updated legislation.
Resource and Project Management: Are able to develop and implement project management plans, manage competing priorities and resources to respond to a face paced and changing work environment.
People Management: Are able to set clear direction for individuals and teams. Manage performance, look fir opportunities to reward and recognise where appropriate , and develop the skills and capabilities of individuals and teams to achieve both unit and organisational goals.
