Corporate Finance

Corporate Finance aims to serve the University by providing relevant and accurate accounting and taxation guidance.  It also administers the University's asset management system and  assists on the assessment of the financial implications of proposed significant operational initiatives.
 
In addition, Corporate Finance manages compliance with the University's external financial reporting and taxation requirements. It also produces the University's annual financial statements, HERDC submission, BAS (GST), Payroll tax and FBT returns.

Key Responsibilities
 

Corporate Finance's key responsibilities include:
 
-  Group's results in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards;
 
-  Preparation of the University's and Consolidated Group's annual financial statements;
 
-  Co-ordination of the annual independent statutory audit of UNSW conducted by the Audit
   Office of New South Wales;
 
-  Annual HERDC reporting process and associated external audit, in partnership with DVC
   Research;
 
-  Administration and regular checking of the University's property, plant and equipment and
   other physical assets;
 
-  Calculation and returning to taxation and government authorities GST, FBT, Payroll and
   other taxes or duties;
 
-  Formulation and updating of the University's financial accounting policies in line with
   Australian Accounting Standards and ever changing University systems and practices;
 
-  Strengthening the University's control environment through the performance of control
   procedures. This includes account reconciliations, aimed at preventing, detecting and
   minimising the risk of errors in the financial information of the University, and possible
   detection of fraud and/or corruption.
 
-  Actively contributing to the continual improvement of financial accounting and reporting
   undertaken throughout of University; and
 
-  Custodianship of the University's general ledger housed on the NSS enterprise system.
