What Is The Online Training Tool?

The University has over 1700 staff using the NS Financials system. This is alot of people to train using traditional one-to-one or classroom only delivery methods.

Therefore, UNSW have introduced a web-based Online Training Tool whereby staff can teach themselves how to perform the main financial functions within the NS Financials system. (This is also sometimes referred to as the PeopleSoft UPK, UPK or User Productivity Kit.)

The benefits for staff are that training can be conducted from their own desk (or any computer with internet access), at their own convenience, and is self-paced. No password is needed and staff can repeat the training topics as often as required, as well as using them as an ongoing reference source for those tasks performed only occasionally.

The Online Training Tool is available 24 hours a day, 7 days per week and is updated on a regular basis by the Finance Training Team. It is the primary source of training information for how to use the NS Financials system.

How Do I Access The Online Training Tool?

To access the Online Training Tool:

The way it is intended to be used is that staff have both the Online Training Tool open and the NS Financials system open at the same time and "toggle" between the sessions using the Alt-Tab keys (windows users) or Apple-Tab (Mac users).

For example: access the Online Training Tool and run the relevant topic(s). Do a few steps in the Online Training Tool, then toggle back to NS Financials and repeat the steps there. Then, toggle back to the Online Training Tool to do a few more steps, then toggle back to NS Financials and so on.

If there are any errors in the topics or additional training topics you would like to see added, please email the details to fti@unsw.edu.au.

  • When it says click [enter] or continue or start you can hit enter on the keyboard or click directly on the word continue or start to proceed to the next screen.
  • Whenever there is a red frame, click inside the frame to proceed to the next screen.
  • Whenever you are prompted to enter something in, eg, Enter 'SUMAN', always type in exactly what is displayed in red letters into the relevant field. Unless you type exactly the same text, you will not proceed to the next screen. If you get stuck, press [enter] to move forward.

Tips For Using the Online Training Tool

  • If no topics appear, click the button next to All, or check My Roles is set to 'Show Topics for All Roles'.
  • If you click on Try It! but nothing happens, you already have another topic open - only one topic can be run at a time. Go to your open topic, exit it, (Escape) then try again.
  • If the Try It! button is greyed out instead of being blue, this means you need to click on a lower level topic name (ie, one without a + or - next to it) in order to activate the button.
  • If you are prompted to run the Tutorial, click No.
  • To exit a topic while you are partway through, press Escape (Esc key).
  • To quickly progress through a topic to get to a specific page, press repeatedly.
  • To go back a step, click on Actions then Previous Step.
