The Risk Management Unit is available to assist Faculties, Schools, Divisions, Controlled Entities and business units in the management of their risks.  The UNSW Risk Management Plan requires that UNSW business units conduct a formal risk assessment in the following circumstances:
 
-  On an annual basis as part of the environmental scan of the strategic planning process,
-  Prior to the commencement of new initiatives by Schools, Divisions, Faculties or Controlled
    Entities,
-  Prior to the commencement of any project with a  total value greater than $3 million,
-  Prior to undertaking any new commercial activity or joint venture,
-  Following a significant incident, near miss or other event which identifies a previously
    unrecognized risk,
-  Prior to the commencement of any activity where serious injury or significant property loss is
    foreseeable, and
-  When required by UNSW policy or procedures. See:  UNSW OHS Management System.
